Author: Tom Billinge Year: 2021 Original file: War Yoga Tom Billinge.md Source type: Book Part (Chapters 1-21)
The "Theory" section of War Yoga establishes a synthesis between Indo-European martial traditions and Vedic asceticism. It argues that modern yoga is a sanitized, 20th-century construct, and that "true" Yoga is a "violent" (Haṭha) discipline originally practiced by warrior brotherhoods (Vratyas). This process involves the internalization of the fire-sacrifice (Yajna) within the body to achieve somatic sovereignty.
The original ingest produced ~15 heavily-folded concept pages. A page-maximization re-ingest (PRD: WORKBENCH/reading/waryoga-billinge-reingest-prd.md) re-reads the full book (3,248 lines) and breaks it out to ~55 net-new pages + ~13 enrichments across both Part I (Theory) and Part II (Practice). The Practice half (vyayam, implements, akhara, dangal) was virgin territory in the first ingest.
TRUST FLAG (load-bearing). Billinge stands on solid scholarship — Joseph Alter, David Gordon White, Jan Heesterman, Stella Kramrisch, Mircea Eliade, Coomaraswamy, Norman Sjoman, Rudraneil Sengupta, Emma Flatt, S.D.C. Mujumdar, Dr. Shanti Prakash Atreya. Claims grounded in those authorities are solid and are cited to them. Billinge's own synthesis — the "WarYoga" frame, the Indo-European-reclamation thesis, the anti-modern worldview — carries the Sanctus Europa Press trust-flag and is tagged [PARAPHRASED — Billinge synthesis] on every concept page. Sanctus Europa is an explicitly identitarian publisher.
QUARANTINE (document-don't-endorse — NOT concept pages). The "WarYoga Worldview" chapter (anti-modern / anti-state / anti-school ideology, "potent ethical somacity", "ancestral foodways" as identity-protest) and the "modern diet is a protracted death sentence" framing are documented here and in the source-tensions ledger only — they do not become ARCHIVES concept pages. The salvageable scholarly layer inside the Worldview chapter — Alter's Foucauldian "docile body / state-penetration / somatic resistance" ethnography — IS vault-eligible and routes into the somatic-morality page. The Ayurvedic khurak/ojas material (Alter + Mujumdar sourced) is built as the Kurak page with the diet-ideology stripped out.
LOAD-BEARING DATING TENSION (never resolved). Billinge is perennialist — he dates the cakra/nāḍī subtle body and the Indo-European solar-yoking practice to the Vedic period. The vault's critical-historical spine (subtle-body-practices-as-8-10th-c-tantric-innovation; Samuel/White) dates the integrated subtle body to 8–10th c CE. The seam: the physical wrestling lineage (Mallayuddha, documented ~1st millennium BCE) can be ancient even where the metaphysical overlay is medieval. Both positions are held in the Tensions section of every affected page.
