Collision — Akan Cooking-as-Alchemy vs Ayurvedic Guṇa-Shift
The Akan-Kemetic doctrine articulates cooking as alchemical transformation across kingdom-categories: fire moves organic substance from animal through plant character to mineral character.
- Cooking as Alchemical Animal-to-Mineral Transformation — Akan articulation - Ayurvedic tradition (multiple sources) on cooking-method as guṇa-determination
The frameworks aren't directly compatible. A practitioner trying to integrate both finds that the Akan framework's animal→plant→mineral progression and the Ayurvedic guṇa-shift don't map onto each other cleanly. A lightly-cooked piece of meat is still in animal territory under the Akan framework; under Ayurvedic framework it might be rajasic (moderate cooking) or sattvic (depending on the specific method and timing). The two axes seem to be tracking different things.
But both traditions agree cooking is cosmologically operational, and both produce practical guidance for cooks. So either: - The two traditions are tracking the same underlying phenomenon through different conceptual frameworks (in which case the apparent incompatibility is artifact of different vocabulary) - The two traditions are tracking different aspects of the same broader phenomenon (the kingdom-progression and the guṇa-shift are both real but capture different dimensions) - The two traditions are tracking partially-overlapping phenomena with significant divergence (some of what each tradition claims is operationally true, some is tradition-specific articulation that doesn't generalize)
The most defensible reading might be that the kingdom-progression and the guṇa-shift are two different operational axes that both vary as a function of cooking-method, and that a complete cooking-cosmology would track both simultaneously rather than collapsing one into the other.
If true, this would extend both traditions. The Akan framework could be enriched by attending to the guṇa-character of the substance being transformed; the Ayurvedic framework could be enriched by attending to which kingdom the substance is being moved toward.
- For promotion to ARCHIVES, the collision would need:
- Articulation of whether the kingdom-progression and guṇa-shift are operationally independent or whether they correlate systematically
- Cross-tradition practitioner accounts of working with both axes simultaneously
- Specific worked examples of cooking-decisions that look different from inside each framework
