A Ledger With Units and No Total

The corpus does something unusual and then stops one step short of it.
It quantises an unbounded obligation. Karma is not linear, so no single act discharges it — but the discharge is not vague either: one completed maṇḍala cycle clears one stratum. That converts an infinite-looking debt into countable work, which is the single most useful thing a doctrine of inherited affliction can do for a practitioner.
Then it never gives the count. Not a number, not a range, not a method for finding out where you are. The unit is stated with precision and the total is never mentioned in eighty minutes.
And two other claims in the same episode make the total unbounded from both directions: the ledger includes whatever the land accumulated, and the affliction is universal, so nobody starts at zero.
So: a debt everyone has, of unknown depth, discharged one countable unit at a time, by an obligation attached to ground you did not disturb. Stated as a structure and not as a mood, that is indistinguishable from a treadmill.
