Every Route From Behaviour to Attainment Is Closed
- Five Intensities: Dhūmāyita to Sūddīpta — a scale that grades ecstatic display by magnitude, and the tradition's most-cited fact about it: sūddīpta belongs to the Vraja gopīs.
- Five Intensities: Dhūmāyita to Sūddīpta — a scale that grades ecstatic display by magnitude, and the tradition's most-cited fact about it: `sūddīpta` belongs to the Vraja `gopīs`. - The Heart Typology — and the claim that visible transformation measures the shallowness of the vessel, not the depth of the emotion. Drop a mountain into the ocean and nothing happens. - The Seven-Rung Scale of Who Is Weeping — and identical tears receiving seven verdicts, graded by the class of person producing them, down to `niḥsattva`, the heart practised at simulating. - Rasa and Bhāva — and the target state defined by the loss of analytic access to one's own experience, so nobody in it can report it in the apparatus's own vocabulary.
Four passages, four Texts, none citing another. Read together they close every route from something observable to a verdict about attainment.
Magnitude? Undercut. The heart typology makes a big display evidence of a shallow container.
Concealment? Narrows to nothing. The intensity scale's lower rungs measure how hard a symptom is to hide, which only applies where suppression is being attempted, and the tradition's exemplars are not suppressing.
Symptom-set? Copyable. `Niḥsattva` produces the full eight on demand, and the taxonomy admits it.
Self-report? Unavailable. The state is constituted by the components no longer resolving, so the person in it cannot describe it in the terms the system uses, and checking would require the operation whose absence defines the state.
`[n≥3 PATTERN]` — three unrelated Texts each closing a different route, and a fourth closing the last one.
What is left standing is provenance: who the person is, and whose company their practice matured in. Which is a claim about lineage rather than about state.
And then the trap closes, because the qualification that gates the highest path has no examiner either. The tradition has closed every evidential route and retained a credential nobody can issue.
A system can be epistemically airtight and practically empty at the same time, and the airtightness is what empties it.
Every one of the four closures is correct. The heart typology is a real insight — visible emotion does track how easily a person is moved. The provenance scale is right that identical behaviour can come from opposite sources. The rasa/bhāva threshold is a genuine phenomenological observation. Nobody made an error.
But four correct closures leave a system that can say nothing whatever about whether a given person has got anywhere, and that has to route the verdict to lineage — which is precisely the route most vulnerable to the interests of the people who administer it.
The generalisable claim, and it is uncomfortable: rigour about evidence, pursued far enough by an institution, hands authority to the institution. Not by anyone's design. Each closure is a genuine act of intellectual honesty, and the aggregate is that only credentialled people can pronounce.
This has an obvious modern shape and the vault should test it there rather than only here — in clinical judgement, in peer review, in any field where the honest response to unreliable indicators has been to defer to accredited assessors.
- Rūpa's Sindhu Second Division would need reading, to check whether the four closures are separated there too or whether Viśvanātha's compression is what makes them look like a set.
- The vault's `dīkṣā` and guru-tattva material would need a pass asking specifically: what does provenance-as-last-instrument do to the institution that certifies provenance?
- The counter-case is what would break it: a tradition with the same four closures that did not route authority to lineage. If one exists, the aggregation claim fails and these are four unrelated honesties.
