Selvalingam Refuses to Rank vs the Vault That Ranks
- Selvalingam's maximal-inclusion / refuse-to-rank posture (Paramādva / Maximum-Inclusion, the non-sectarian framing of the eight schools) vs the vault's own adjudicating pages that do rank: Trika Philosophy (which the corpus repeatedly treats as the higher, more complete system over Śaiva Siddhānta) and the Wallis-vs-White historiographic contest captured in Bloomfield–Smith–White Debate: Literary vs Real and Tantra as Trans-Sectarian Esoteric Mode.

Selvalingam's whole posture is that you don't rank the schools — inclusion is freedom socialized, and the free have nothing to defend and so nothing to exclude. But the vault is built on adjudication. It files Trika above Siddhānta. It stages Wallis against White and lets the reader feel one historiography out-argue the other. The collision: non-ranking is itself a ranked position. "I refuse to rank" sits, structurally, at the top of the very hierarchy it claims to dissolve — it is the meta-move that quietly outranks every ranker by declining their game while keeping the high ground. The maximal includer hasn't stepped out of the tournament; he's claimed to be its judge.
Refusal-to-rank is not the absence of a hierarchy but a hierarchy with one move: it places the non-ranker above all rankers by reframing their ranking as a smallness he has transcended. Falsifiable form: if Selvalingam's inclusivism were truly flat, it would have no preferred reading — yet his own non-dual / svātantrya frame functions as the criterion by which the "narrow" sectarians are gently demoted. The flatness is performed; the apex is occupied.
- Show that Selvalingam's inclusion is not symmetric — that it privileges the schools closest to his non-dual frame and treats dualist/sectarian schools as less complete even while saying it ranks nothing.
- Distinguish this from genuine pluralism (which has no apex) by locating the implicit criterion he uses to include.
- Check the move against the vault's explicit rankers (Trika-over-Siddhānta, Wallis-over-White): is the vault doing the honest thing by naming its hierarchy, while inclusivism does the same thing while denying it?
- Promotion requires the asymmetry to be demonstrable from his own talks, not inferred.
