Both Planes Were True Until One Was Observed

If the Future Is Fixed, What Exactly Are You Choosing?

The argument about fate usually runs as a straight fight. Either everything is settled and choice is theatre, or things are genuinely open and nothing was ever written. Pick one, and the other side has an objection you cannot answer.

This material takes a third route, and it does it with an exercise you can do right now with one hand. Everything is fated, and the choosing is real, and the two do not collide — because what is fated and what is chosen turn out to be different things. So the question is worth asking without either comfort. If the future is fixed, what exactly are you choosing?

The Open State

The claim comes wrapped in a description of the condition it was made from, and the condition is named. Working in an open state means a condition in which your mind and perceptions are vastly expanded and strongly focussed into the present — and in it one recognises and understands Being in a condition of infinite knowing.1

Two numbers are attached to it, and they are the only measurements offered. Under normal circumstances this expanded state can last up to twelve hours after its induction. And one is reported that endured for almost two weeks.1

Nothing is said about how it is induced, which matters given that the rest of the section rests on what was seen inside it. The state is named and it is timed. It is left otherwise undescribed, so nothing here could be attempted by a reader.

Two Realities of the Same Aircraft

What happened in one such state is reported plainly, and it is the strangest passage anywhere in this material. Consciousness was being used to move inter-dimensionally, and on the return to normal focal levels there were two different realities pertaining to the same event.1

In one, an aircraft explodes in midair and falls on a village below. In the other, the same aircraft completes its flight and the passengers disembark safely in the usual manner.1 Both were seen. Neither was a prediction of the other.

Not a vision and an interpretation. Two finished events, both fully present, of one flight. That is the observation everything after it is built on.

Hold Your Hand Still

Then the conclusion drawn, and it is a general claim about the structure of the present. Both events exist eternally as possibilities in the Now, and in fact all possible possibilities you can think of exist in the Eternal Present, almost like blueprints.2

And then the exercise, which costs nothing and is the best thing on the page. Lift your hand. Hold it still. Look at it, and recognise that all the possible movements your hand can make are fully present at this very moment — all predestined in the now.2

Which is straightforwardly true and does not require any doctrine to see. The fist, the wave, the reach for the cup, the finger on a page. None of them is happening. All of them are there, in the hand, at once.

Then the question, and it is the only one asked directly in the section. When you recognise the number of motions you can execute with that hand, you can choose any one you please. So, which will you implement?2

Everything Is Fated, and the Expression Is Yours

The hand is then scaled up by the standard rule. As Above, so Below, and as with the finite, so with the Infinite. All possible possibilities exist in totality in the Now, all fated by the Divine Emanator of all being.2

Which produces the resolution the page exists for, and it is a distinction rather than a compromise. All events are Fated, but how they will be expressed is a matter of Free Will.2 The set of what can happen is closed, and was never yours. What happens inside it is entirely yours.

And the growth claim follows from the same shape. The more your consciousness grows and expands into full awakeness in the Now, the more you recognise the potential choices — all of which were fully present anyway.2 Nothing new is created by waking up. More of what was already there becomes visible.

Choice Is Limited by Clarity

Then the limit, stated exactly, and it is the sharpest sentence in the section. Freedom of choice depends on the abilities of the individual applying Will, and choices will be limited by how many of the potentials of expression can be perceived by anyone at any moment.3

The phrase given for that limit is three words. In other words, clarity of consciousness.3 Nothing else is offered to explain it, and nothing is said about how it is measured.

So freedom is not a quantity you have or lack. It is how much of the hand you can see — and two people in identical circumstances have different amounts of it, not because one is braver but because one can make out more of what is available.

Lockerbie

The section then answers the question any reader is holding, and it does not soften the answer. Of the two fated possibilities, the one manifested was the exploding aircraft.3

The event was seen as it was happening. Which reality had been realised was not known until the television was turned on. And there was the news report of the aircraft that exploded and fell on the village of Lockerbie.3

What follows is not triumph but a description of a feeling, and it is borrowed from William Gray. Gray had watched buildings burning next door to his own house, the one holding everything he owned, wondering how much longer he would own it. He said he felt empty, as if resigned to whatever fate might come — not exactly with total indifference, but with an abandonment of himself to Life, God, Fate, or whatever one calls it.3

That is the emotion reported on seeing the news. Not vindication, and not horror. The emptiness of a man watching a fire he is not going to fight.

Implementation Workflow

You want to know where your choosing actually happens. The answer is narrower than most accounts allow, and more workable.

Start with the hand, because it is the whole doctrine in a form that needs no belief. Lift it, hold it still, and go through what it could do without doing any of it. Every one of those movements is fully present, none is happening, and the difference between them is the only place your will operates.

Then separate the event from its expression on something real. The redundancy, the diagnosis, the conversation you have to have on Friday — the fact of it may be settled and the way you carry it is not. This is not a consolation. It is a division of the problem into a part to stop arguing with and a part to work on.

Then treat clarity as the lever, since the limit named is perceptual. Choices are limited by how many of the potentials can be perceived, so the practical move when you feel cornered is not to push harder against the two options you can see. It is to assume there are more and go looking, because the doctrine says they were there before you noticed and will be there whether you notice or not.

And expect the emptiness rather than the peace. What is reported at the moment of the worst outcome is not calm or acceptance. It is an abandonment of oneself to whatever comes, and that is worth knowing in advance, because it does not feel like a spiritual state while it is happening.

Evidence, Tensions, Open Questions

The philosophical move here is genuinely useful and does not depend on any of the reported experience. Splitting what happens from how it is expressed dissolves the fate-versus-freedom fight without conceding either half. The hand exercise demonstrates it in ten seconds, with no doctrinal commitment required.

The Lockerbie material is a different kind of thing entirely and has to be weighed separately. A personal precognition of a real atrocity is reported retrospectively. Pan Am 103 went down over Lockerbie in December 1988 and killed 270 people. There is no contemporaneous record here, no witness, and nothing said about what was told to anyone before the news came on. Nothing about the philosophical claim rests on it, and nothing verifies it.

Tension left open. If both aircraft outcomes existed as blueprints and one was realised, the section never says what did the realising. Free will governs expression on this account, and 270 deaths are not a mode of expression — so the mechanism that selects between two fated possibilities is exactly the thing left unnamed.

🚩 PRACTITIONER SOURCE. 🚩 UNVERIFIABLE PERSONAL CLAIM — the Lockerbie precognition is reported after the fact with no corroboration of any kind. 🚩 The open state is named and timed and never described as a procedure, so nothing here is replicable. 🚩 The Gray material is second-hand personal testimony about a feeling.

Author Tensions & Convergences

The version of freedom given here does not match the one two sections earlier. There, free will determines the Future and is controlled by Fate through the Past, and it becomes stronger than Fate by aligning with Providence — an arrangement in which will and fate are two forces of comparable kind, contending.

Here they cannot contend, because they operate on different things. Every event is fated and no amount of will changes the set; will works entirely on expression, inside a menu it did not write.

The second version is the more defensible and it costs something the first was offering. If will never touches which events occur, then aligning it with Providence cannot alter what happens either — only how you meet what happens. But the earlier section says alignment purifies and rectifies Karma, which sounds very much like changing outcomes. Both claims are made in the same chapter, and neither is withdrawn.

Cross-Domain Handshakes

Colour the Choices — behavioral-mechanics.

Kissinger believed he was better informed than Nixon and could make the best decision himself, and he understood that acting on that would be fatal. So he presented three or four options with one obviously best among them. The President chose, freely, and chose what Kissinger wanted.

Set that beside the claim on this page and the two describe one mechanism from opposite ends. Here, freedom is limited by how many of the potentials of expression can be perceived. There, somebody else decides how many you perceive.

Which exposes something this page cannot see on its own. The limit on choice is treated here as internal — a matter of clarity of consciousness, fixable by waking up further. The political case shows the same limit being installed from outside, routinely, by a person with an interest in the outcome, and it comes with the crucial detail: the man being managed felt entirely free. Nothing in the experience of choosing tells you how the list was assembled.

So the two remedies are halves of one defence, and neither works alone. Expand what you can perceive, because the options really are there before you notice them. That much this page has right. And ask who drew up the menu, because clarity applied to a list somebody else wrote will only ever make you a more confident participant in their plan. The hand exercise is safe precisely because nobody else has access to your hand.

The Live Edge

Sharpest implication. If every possible movement of your hand is fully present right now, then nothing you are about to do is being created — it is being selected. Which makes the whole of anybody's agency a matter of what they can see rather than what they can generate, and puts perception, not willpower, at the centre of a life.

Generative questions.

  • Two aircraft outcomes existed and one was realised. What selects, if free will governs only expression?
  • Clarity of consciousness sets the size of your option set. Is there anything in the tradition that measures it, or any marker for having more of it?
  • The reported emotion at the worst outcome is emptiness and self-abandonment. Is that presented as the correct response, or only as what happened?
