The book treats this triad as settled, predictive science, without much interrogation of how reliably "ability, intelligence, and drive" can actually be assessed by an observer meeting someone briefly, as opposed to being named cleanly only after the person has already succeeded and the observer's early impression can be cited as proof of good judgment.
That's the exact survivorship problem named above, and it's worth holding onto every time this book cites an early observer's prescient-sounding read of the young artist's potential.
