Core Argument

The third of three Navaratri classes on the Devī Māhātmyam, and the densest. This class covers the theology — the Navadurgā framing of the nine nights as phases of the feminine; a Śākta non-dualism in which one Śakti creates, becomes, and devours the world by her own will; the problem of evil falling back onto God herself (Śākta vs Gnostic-demiurge); the Goddess "beyond morality" (Līlā); linguistic mysticism (the world as sound, the alphabet as the Mātṛkā goddess, Kālī from the root kal); and Kālī as the devourer of time in the cremation ground. The through-line: the text's value is phonemic, not semantic — you are touching the Goddess through sound — and her will, not any deontological or utilitarian rule, IS the moral order.
