Self-Exorcism Down the Toilet

Where Do You Put a Mood You Cannot Shake?

You are furious about something and the fury will not go. You have thought it through, you know it is out of proportion, and it is still there hours later, occupying you.

Everybody has a technique for this and most of them are bad. Wait for it to pass. Talk it out. Distract yourself. What follows is a formula with two rhyming lines, attached to something you were going to do anyway several times today. It is undignified, it is free, and the man who reports it has used it for decades. So the question is worth asking practically. Where do you put a mood you cannot shake?

What Goes In Must Come Out Somewhere

The doctrine underneath it comes from William Gray in five words. The life process of eating and defecating applies on all levels of manifestation, put simply as what goes in must come out somewhere.1

Which is enacted physically every day, when we evacuate our dross down a latrine. That is, if one is not seriously constipated — a most uncomfortable condition, and one which pertains not only to our physical bodies but also to the mind, soul and spirit.1

And the extension is exact rather than metaphorical. We can suffer just as much from constipation mentally and psychologically, when we become bogged down by what we are retaining from the encounters we have had to deal with. The residue of those has not been expelled from our psyches.1

Which gives the phrase the whole practice rests on. Our so-called hang-ups might just as well be described as our psychic excrement.1

Nobody to Blame

Before the technique arrives, a position is stated that removes the usual first move. There is no value in blaming the worst in oneself on external events.2

And it is made specific rather than left general. You cannot blame your mother, father, whoever or whatsoever for your current psychological or spiritual condition.2

The concession is honest about how that lands. As difficult as this is to accept and understand, the fact of the matter is that most of our emotional difficulties are self-made.2 Note most rather than all. And note that what is being described is difficulties, rather than events.

Down the Abyss

Gray's recommendation is the doctrinal core, and it repurposes a piece of the Tree that usually gets described as a barrier. The safest thing to do with one's inner junk is to evacuate it down the Abyss on the Tree of Life.3

Then seven words that reframe the whole diagram. That is what it is there for.3 The Abyss is not an obstacle between the upper three spheres and the rest. It is the drain.

And the instruction completes the analogy in both directions. Alter the worst of your nature, just as your body does, to the spiritual equivalent of excrement — and shove it out to fertilize your Tree of Life.3

Which is the part that stops this being merely disposal. What leaves you is not destroyed, and it is not sent away. It fertilises, which is what excrement does, and the Tree it feeds is your own.

The Formula

The formula emerged from private conversations with Gray, and it is given in full:

"When you feel yourself to be in a state of great mental and emotional turmoil, you can rid yourself of this negativity by urinating and/or excreting whatever you are experiencing down the nearest toilet, literally forcing it out of your body with the urine or excrement. When you have bad thoughts, whisper or think while urinating 'Toxic thinking — Go! like purest water flow!' Simultaneously imagine and feel all the 'mental darkness' flowing out of you into the latrine. In turn, push bad feelings out of your system via the anus while whispering or thinking 'Foul feelings — Forth! Return to cleanest earth!' Literally expel the disagreeable emotions from your body conjointly with the physical excrement."3

Everything in it is specified. The trigger, the two channels, the two lines, the imagining, and the physical act each one is attached to. Nothing is left to the practitioner's judgement.

Toxic Thinking, Foul Feelings

The division is not decorative and it repays a look. Thoughts go with urine. Feelings go with excrement.3

Which lines up with the rest of this material rather than being arbitrary. Thinking belongs to Hod and the reasoning self, and feeling belongs to Netzach and the animal one. The heavier, slower, more embodied of the two gets the heavier, slower channel.

The rhymes are doing work too. Go, flow. Forth, earth. Both are short enough to whisper, and both name a destination rather than merely an exit. The thinking flows like purest water, and the feelings return to cleanest earth.

That destination is the difference between this and simple venting. Nothing is being thrown at anybody here. It is being routed somewhere it becomes useful, which is the same claim the Abyss instruction made.

He Still Uses It

The report is personal and unhedged. I have been, and still am, using this very effective technique with great results.3

What it produced is stated as a discovery about control. Whatever my mood or mindset may be, I have control over it.3

And the two scenes are given plainly. If thinking harmful thoughts, he gets himself to the nearest toilet and expels those thoughts, literally feeling them flow out with the urine. If angry, or holding emotions which impact negatively, he hurls himself into the nearest lavatory and evacuates those negativities, expelling them with the physical excrement.3

The claim made for it is large and it is made carefully. This incredibly simple technique did not only save me from disastrous circumstances on many occasions, but brought balance into life on more than merely the material level.3

Implementation Workflow

You want to try this, and the only real obstacle is that it is embarrassing. Four steps, and all of them are quick.

Start by keeping the two channels separate, because the formula does. Thoughts on urination. Feelings on excretion. Sort what is actually bothering you before you begin, since the wrong line on the wrong occasion is doing something the formula does not describe.

Then say the words, quietly, rather than thinking about saying them. Toxic thinking — Go! like purest water flow! and Foul feelings — Forth! Return to cleanest earth! They are whispered or thought, and they take no longer than the act they accompany.

Then do the imagining, which is the part that makes it a practice rather than a mutter. Feel the mental darkness flowing out of you into the latrine. The whole technique rests on that being a real sensation rather than an idea about one.

And keep the destination in the sentence. The feelings return to cleanest earth, and the junk fertilises your Tree. Nothing here is about getting rid of something. The material is being sent somewhere it does some good, and that is what separates this from stewing with a rhyme attached.

Evidence, Tensions, Open Questions

This is a technique with a clear procedure and a long personal record behind it, and the claims made for it are about the practitioner's own moods rather than about the world. That is the right size of claim for the evidence available.

Nothing here requires the doctrine to work. Somebody who takes the Abyss for a diagram and vital force for a metaphor can still run the formula. What they would be doing is attaching a deliberate release to a reliable daily cue, and that mechanism needs no cosmology at all.

Tension left open. You cannot blame your mother, father, whoever or whatsoever for your current psychological or spiritual condition is stated without qualification, immediately before a technique for handling emotional turmoil. Nothing distinguishes a difficulty a person made from one that was done to them, and the sentence as written covers both.

🚩 PRACTITIONER SOURCE. 🚩 SINGLE SOURCE — the effectiveness rests entirely on one practitioner's decades of self-report. 🚩 The blanket statement that emotional difficulties are self-made sits badly with anything involving actual harm done to a person. 🚩 Brought balance into my life on more than merely the material level is unspecified.

Author Tensions & Convergences

The Abyss gets two incompatible descriptions across this body of work, and the difference matters. Earlier it is the womb of the Shechinah, the Great Mother, out of which the seven lower spheres are constantly emanating in the Now. A place things come from.

Here it is a drain. That is what it is there for, and what goes down it is the worst of your nature converted to spiritual excrement.

The two are reconcilable and the reconciliation is worth having, because it is the same claim the whole page makes about bodies. A womb and a drain are the same aperture in most organisms, and the material that fertilises a field is the material that left a body. Nothing states it, and the imagery on both pages strains toward it. The excrement fertilizes your Tree of Life, and the Tree grows out of the Abyss.

Cross-Domain Handshakes

The Daily Loop — business.

The operator's framing is about where a habit gets attached rather than about willpower. There is a version of your day that already exists. You will absorb information, make something, and put something out, whether or not anybody planned it. The three motions are not exotic. They are things you already do all day, and the only question is whose purpose they serve.

Which names exactly what this formula is doing, and it is the cleverest thing about it. The practice is bolted onto something involuntary. You do not have to remember it, schedule it, or find fifteen minutes for it. The cue is a bodily need. It arrives several times a day whether you are motivated or not, and it arrives in a room where you are alone with the door shut.

Compare that with everything else in the syllabus. An hour of toning the body requires a decision, a slot and a quiet room, and the whole previous section is about how badly people keep such appointments. This one cannot be forgotten, because the reminder is physiological.

And the constraint that comes with it is worth stating. A habit stacked on a cue this reliable will run whatever you attach to it, which is why the content matters more than usual. The formula works by making a release automatic. So anybody using it is training something several times a day, and had better be sure it is the thing they meant.

The Live Edge

Sharpest implication. The material is not destroyed. It fertilises your own Tree of Life. So nothing in you is treated as waste in the sense of being worthless, only as waste in the sense of needing to leave and go somewhere it can do work.

Generative questions.

  • The Abyss is a womb in one passage and a drain here. Is it one aperture, and does the tradition anywhere say so?
  • Thoughts with urine, feelings with excrement. Is that assignment doctrinal, or was it arrived at by practice?
  • Most of our emotional difficulties are self-made. What is the tradition's account of the ones that are not?
