West African Traditions Hub — Map of Content

What This Hub Covers

Non-Igbo African-tradition concept pages currently in the vault. Yoruba, Bantu (Luba), Ghana-region, and pan-West African material. The hub was created 2026-05-12 to extract these pages from the Igbo Cosmology and Healing Hub, where they had been filed by default in the absence of a tradition-appropriate alternative.

This is a placeholder hub. Each of the traditions represented here would, with sufficient page accumulation, warrant its own dedicated hub:

Yoruba tradition — currently 1 page (Ifa divination); pending Ori/Orisha/Esu material
Bantu / Luba tradition — currently 1 page (Lukasa portable-memory device); pending Kongo cosmogram, Bantu cosmology
Ghana / Akan tradition — currently 1 page (witch camps); pending Akan four-essence cosmology (Derek's Akom video forthcoming)
Pan-West African / contemporary — 3 pages (Popobawa, juju oaths, Oba authority revocation) covering cross-tradition contemporary phenomena

When any one of these traditions reaches 10+ pages, the merge-first protocol calls for extracting it into a dedicated tradition-specific hub. The current hub is a temporary structure preserving page accessibility until that growth happens.

Key Tensions in This Area

Hub coherence vs. tradition specificity. Yoruba, Bantu/Luba, Akan, and pan-West-African phenomena are not the same tradition. Grouping them together is a structural compromise driven by current page-counts, not a claim that these traditions form a single intellectual territory. When sufficient page accumulation exists, the hub should split into tradition-specific hubs.
Tier 2 source dominance. All current pages are built on single Tier-2 sources (Stone Age Herbalist popular synthesis, etc.). The hub holds material that needs Tier-1 academic and primary-text grounding to mature.
Diaspora connection unexplored. Several of these traditions have substantial Atlantic-diaspora developments (Yoruba → Lucumí/Santería/Candomblé; Akan → Maroon and Caribbean variants; Bantu/Kongo → Palo Mayombe and related). The hub currently has no diaspora-tradition pages. Derek mentions Palo Mayombe in the 2026-05-12 batch but the topic is not yet developed in vault.

Structural Notes

Hub created 2026-05-12 by extraction from the Igbo Cosmology and Healing Hub, where these pages had been filed by default. The extraction addresses a structural misfiling: non-Igbo material was housed in an Igbo-named hub.
Placeholder structure. The four traditions represented here would each ideally have their own hub once page-counts justify it. The current single-hub arrangement is a holding structure until that growth happens.
Yoruba expansion pending. The Yoruba tradition is one of the largest African traditions globally with substantial academic literature. Current single-page coverage is severely under-developed; Ori, Orisha pantheon, Esu, Ifa odu system, and diaspora variants (Lucumí, Candomblé) are all known gaps.
Akan expansion pending. Derek's forthcoming Akan/Akom video (referenced in the 2026-05-12 Medicine Shell AmAA Batch) will provide first practitioner-grounded Akan material for the vault. When ingested, Akan content may extract into its own hub.
Diaspora traditions absent. Vodou, Candomblé, Lucumí, Palo Mayombe — all referenced in the 2026-05-12 batch but not yet ingested. The diaspora traditions are a known gap.
