Genius as Involuntary and Non-Democratic

Genius cannot be taught, cannot be learned, cannot be produced through pedagogy. It can only be recognized, supported, or suppressed. Liszt practiced 4-5 hours daily obsessively — not to become Liszt, but because he was Liszt and could not stop. Genius is involuntary expression of inborn instinct, not achievement through effort. This contradicts modern educational ideology (everything is learnable, democracy of talent) but the contradiction is real. More resonant: Nietzsche's argument that "art is the great justification of existence" — without rare exceptional expression, existence becomes unbearable. The corollary: cultures without genius face existential emptiness. This explains why democracies obsessed with equality and accessibility produce no genius — the structures that preserve mediocrity (equal access, measurable outcomes, teachable protocols) are the same structures that prevent genius.
