"Absolutely No Chance": The Lineage-Necessity Claim That Cannot Be Outside-Verified

Foss at Ketu K39: "I followed this program under my Guru, Pandit Sanjay Rath from Puri in Eastern India. Some people think that by reading the Sūtras and their translations, they can understand their import. From my experience, I can say that there is absolutely no chance that anyone could arrive at the teachings I received in this way, however smart they might be."

This is the most explicit lineage-necessity claim in the 9-volume corpus. Foss is naming categorical-impossibility: text-only study cannot deliver the operational-knowledge that lineage-transmission delivers, no matter how intelligent the reader.

The Live Wire

• First wire (obvious): "Vedic-astrology requires apprenticeship, not just reading."
• Second wire (deeper): The claim is structurally unfalsifiable from outside. Anyone who has not received the lineage-transmission cannot evaluate whether the text-only-derivation is genuinely insufficient or whether the lineage-claim is a gate-keeping move. From inside, the claim is self-evident; from outside, it is unverifiable. This is exactly the epistemic-position that creates persistent disagreement between practitioner-lineages and academic-Sanskrit-scholarship: they are looking at the same texts but standing in epistemically-distinct positions and neither can evaluate the other from the inside.
• Third wire (uncomfortable): The Western-academic insistence on textual-verification may be systematically excluding the most-operationally-important portion of Vedic-knowledge — the lineage-transmission-layer — because that layer is unverifiable through the academic method. If so, the academic-Vedic-Sanskrit literature is incomplete-in-principle, not just incomplete-in-practice. The completeness requires lineage-access that the academic method cannot supply.

Open question: How does one diagnose genuine-lineage-transmission from pseudo-lineage-claims when both claim "absolutely no chance" without access? The diagnostic-question is methodologically important.
