The Engineer-Sanskrit-Rath-Disciple Trio Pattern
The Capture
Three of the most prolific contemporary Sanjay-Rath-direct disciples — Andrew Foss, Visti Larsen, and P.V.R. Narasimha Rao — share a structural-pattern that nobody seems to comment on:
- Foss: PhD physicist (Oxford) + Sanskrit-trained + Sanjay-Rath direct disciple
- Larsen: Engineer + Sanskrit-trained + Sanjay-Rath direct disciple
- Rao: IIT-Madras BTech Electrical-Electronics Engineering + Sanskrit Bhāṣā Viśārada (age 11) + Sanjay-Rath direct disciple
Three engineer-scientist-Sanskrit-Rath-disciples. The pattern is suspicious. Either Sanjay Rath specifically selects engineer-trained Sanskrit-readers for direct discipleship, or engineer-Sanskrit-people self-select to seek out Rath's lineage transmission, or the lineage transmission specifically requires this combination of technical-rigor + Sanskrit-fluency that pre-existing engineer-Sanskrit-readers naturally bring.
The Live Wire
- First wire (obvious): Engineers like rigorous systematic transmissions; Rath's lineage offers that. Self-selection.
- Second wire (deeper): The Konark tāmra-poti transmission (the brass-leaf engraved-text Foss receives from Rath in 2007) is preserved in Sanskrit and requires both Sanskrit-philological skill and technical-systematic-thinking to decode operationally. The engineer-Sanskrit combination is structurally selected for by the transmission's nature. Rath isn't selecting people; the transmission selects them.
- Third wire (uncomfortable): Every traditional-knowledge transmission has a prerequisite-profile that filters who can receive it intact. The engineer-Sanskrit-jyotishi prerequisite-profile is one example. Other lineages have similar but different prerequisite-profiles: classical-Indian-music requires absolute-pitch + Sanskrit/regional-language + extensive-childhood-immersion; Tibetan-Buddhist tantric transmissions require monastic-foundation + Sanskrit/Tibetan + decades-of-prep. The prerequisite-profile filter is invisible to outsiders who only see "the lineage's contemporary disciples" without recognizing what made them eligible to be disciples.
