The Word "Again"

The spark: [PERSONAL] The reading on the expert's mind lands on one word: the thing the expert says most is again. "I've seen this before." "Here we go again." "Again" is the sound of recognition closing the door before the moment can show you anything new. The beginner doesn't have the word yet, which is why the beginner still has the possibilities.

The live wire (second framing): You can hear "again" coming up in yourself mid-conversation, mid-read, mid-listen — the little click of I already know what this is. Catching that click is a practice. The mastery move isn't accumulating more "agains"; it's keeping the capacity to be surprised by the thing you've done ten thousand times. Tyler re-teaching himself how to write a song he already knew how to write is the same move from the other side.

Where it could go: A craft piece on expertise as a trap and the deliberate re-becoming-a-beginner that great artists keep doing. Pairs with The Expert Says "Again", The Beginner's Mind, and Relearn What You Thought You Knew.
