The last chapter of the Bhāgavata opens with Viṣṇu as a tortoise, holding up a mountain while the ocean is churned. The mountain turns on his back.
"the sharp points of Mount Mandara scratched his back, making him sleepy. May the wind from his breathing protect you. As a legacy of that, the waters of the ocean beat against the shoreline, ebbing and flowing and imitating his breathing. Even now, the ocean ceaselessly continues and does not stop."
[RESONANCE] Because everything else in twelve books happened once, somewhere else, to somebody the reader will never meet.

⚑ You can walk to it. The claim comes with an ongoing demonstration attached, and the demonstration is the most ordinary thing on earth.
And the detail that makes it work is the scratching. He does not fall asleep from exertion or transcendence. ⚑ He gets drowsy because something is rubbing his back, which is the most physical sentence in the volume and it is doing the most metaphysical work.
⚑ This is the volume's only claim with a live external referent, and it is in the last chapter, four paragraphs from the volume's least checkable claim.
Same chapter: the text crowns itself best of eighteen on no stated measure. ⚠ The most verifiable thing the book ever says and the least verifiable thing the book ever says are four hundred words apart.
⚑ And the tide is a different species of evidence from anything else in the ingest. The volume's usual proofs are testimony — somebody saw it, somebody reports it, a chain of custody is recited. The tide needs no chain. It is not attested; it is available.

Against He Vomited Up Everything His Teacher Taught Him — the two epistemologies of the Twelfth Skandha, side by side. ⚑ One establishes a branch of the Veda by naming who handed it to whom. The other establishes a god by pointing at the sea. ⚠ The text uses provenance everywhere and observation once, and the observation is the one that would survive losing the lineage.
Promotion criterion: ⚑ find a second ongoing-residue claim anywhere in Vols 1–3. ⚠ Without one this is a beautiful sentence and not a finding.
Sweep Vols 1–2 for "even now" / "to this day" constructions. ⚑ If the corpus has a habit of anchoring claims to persisting phenomena, this is a real feature and the Twelfth-Skandha instance is its last appearance rather than its only one.
