Foss's Reincarnation-and-Longevity Operational Framework

The Specific Math of How Long You Live and Why You Come Back

Vedic-astrology traditions handle death-and-rebirth as part of standard chart-reading, not as separate spiritual-discipline. Foss makes the standard framework operationally-specific in two ways: (1) a chart-derivable longevity-formula that names roughly when bodily strength will peak and decline, and (2) a reincarnation-evidence framework that grounds the rebirth-claim in cross-checkable cases rather than treating it as devotional-assumption. Both are operational. This page documents the framework as a distinct concept-page so that practitioner-readers can use the operational tools directly.

The Longevity Formula

Foss documents (Chandra 38, Jaivātṛka: increasing longevity): the Moon-from-mother gives ¼ of the body's strength; the Sun-from-father gives ¹⁄₉ of the body's strength. Adding: 9/36 + 4/36 = 13/36. For a body whose maximum-potential lifespan is 100 years, the maturation curve is 100 × 13/36 ≈ 36 years to strength-peak. After that, the descent begins.

This is operationally testable in the practitioner's own experience and observable in others. Many people report a felt-sense of peak-bodily-strength around age 34-37 with gradual decline thereafter. Foss documents: "I remember being told this when I was about 30 and the amazement when I experienced the exact truth of it. Up to age 35, one feels so strong that the idea of decline seems impossible."

The formula is not a death-prediction. It is a strength-curve prediction. Specific death-timing in Vedic astrology comes from longevity-yoga analysis (a more complex chart-based analysis involving Mars, Saturn, the Ascendant lord, and several other factors) — beyond the scope of this page. The 13/36 formula is the simpler bodily-strength-peak indicator that most practitioners can verify against their own experience.

The Reincarnation Evidence Framework

Foss treats reincarnation as an empirical claim with documentary support, not as a devotional-assumption. He documents (Chandra 21 commentary on Aṣṭamūrti-priya, beloved of Shiva and the eightfold nature, in context of past-life-influences on present-life):

  • 2,500+ University-of-Virginia reincarnation cases. The Division of Perceptual Studies at UVA (founded by Ian Stevenson) maintains a database of 2,500+ cases where children have provided information about prior lives that has been verified to some degree. The database is publicly-citeable scientific-research.

  • Foss's own past-life shadows. "I, myself, have thought forms from multiple cultures. This helps me identify with many different people. Had I been repeatedly reborn in the same culture, I would be one of those people fighting to protect it against any 'foreign' intrusion." Foss documents Indian-pandit-shadow (strong felt-sense, multiple specific recognitions) and Middle-Eastern-scholar-shadow (emotional-anchoring evident when visiting Middle-Eastern countries).

  • Mozart's age-5 composition ability as cross-life-shadow example. "How did Mozart start composing at the age of five? My scientific colleagues may try to show that by some freak of chance, Mozart's brain had some special wiring, which is all fine. That is the shadow I am talking about and it does not matter whether you want to make theories about past lives or imagine it is all chance." The cross-life-shadow framing explains-without-requiring-belief — exceptional childhood-abilities are consistent with prior-life-skill-carryover even if alternative explanations remain available.

  • Operational-implication for chart-reading. Past-life material shows up in present-life chart configurations through specific positions and yogas. Foss does not develop this systematically in the inner-planet volumes but flags it as part of the framework.

The Body-Transcendence Claim

Beyond ordinary longevity-and-reincarnation, Foss documents the more-extreme Vedic claim that properly-prepared bodies can transcend death entirely. Documented evidence-points:

  • Bhrigu-lineage relative-immortality (Venus 33 commentary). The Bhrigu-Rishi-lineage practice of 16-stage mercury-alchemy combined with breath-balance Yogic-practice is documented as producing bodies that gradually refine to the point of invisibility to ordinary eyesight + body-density-shift toward subtle-form. The Vedic literature describes specific Rishis (Bhrigu among them) who attained this relative-immortality.

  • Catholic-saint levitation eyewitness data (Sūrya 87). 200+ Catholic saints with reasonably-reliable levitation eyewitness reports. Foss treats this as data-requiring-explanation, not superstition.

  • Prahlad Jani (Mataji) 70-year no-food-no-water BBC investigation (Sūrya 87). Contemporary case-study; clinically-investigated for 10 days with no food, no water, no excretion observed.

  • Sri-Lankan flying-yogis-tradition (Sūrya 87). Documented oral-history of practitioners flying north to bathe in the Ganges before the Portuguese-arrival ~500 years ago; tradition gradually thinned over centuries.

The claim Foss makes via these data-points: the body has more potential plasticity than contemporary physiology assumes; the Vedic-tradition's claims about extreme body-states are empirically defensible at the level of cross-tradition convergent witness data.

How to Use the Framework

For self-life-planning: Use the 36-year strength-peak indicator. Plan high-physical-output projects to occur during the build-up-to-36 years. After 36, shift toward projects that rely more on accumulated-knowledge-and-relationship-capital than on pure-physical-output. This is approximate; chart-specific longevity-yogas can shift the curve substantially for individuals.

For relating to past-life material: When encountering apparently-arbitrary attractions (a country you've never visited that feels intimately familiar; a skill that comes too easily; a language that feels recovered-rather-than-learned), consider past-life-shadow as one explanation alongside others. Foss's framing does not require belief — it allows past-life shadows to be data without forcing devotional-commitment.

For chart-reading about reincarnation themes: The Moon (psychological-mind-carrying-across-lifetimes), the Atma-Karaka (the soul-planet), the 5th house (children + creativity + past-life merit), the 9th house (father + dharma + previous-life-dharma) carry the chart-information about reincarnation themes. Foss does not develop this systematically but the framework establishes the operational-relevance.

For body-transcendence work: The 16-stage mercury-alchemy + breath-balance Yogic-practice that Bhrigu-lineage transmits requires expert supervision and is operationally-risky (Foss notes "every time some interruption took place; even if there is a small defect, the whole work is spoilt and one has to start over"). The framework documents the tradition; the practice is not safely-undertaken alone.

Evidence / Tensions / Open Questions

Evidence: The 13/36 longevity formula is operationally-testable in practitioner experience. The UVA reincarnation-research database is publicly-citeable. The Catholic-saint-levitation archival data is documented. The Prahlad Jani BBC investigation is documented. The Bhrigu-lineage body-transcendence claims are tradition-internal but cross-culturally-corroborated by similar claims in other contemplative traditions.

Batch-2 Ketu-Mokṣa-Kāraka extension to the longevity framework. Foss's Ketu volume (batch 2) extends the longevity framework with the explicit Mokṣa-Kāraka architecture at K20: "He indicates the end, and thus Moksha, the end of the ego and the complete letting go of all identification." The 13/36 longevity formula reads body-strength-peak; the Ketu-Mokṣa-Kāraka reads ego-strength-end. Together they form a complete architectural reading: the body peaks at 36 years from 100-year-body (Sun-from-father 1/9 + Moon-from-mother 1/4); the ego ends operationally when Ketu's Mokṣa-Kāraka function activates (Ketu-Dashā arrival or strong Ketu-influence on AtmaKāraka). The K81 ecology-essay extends this further to collective longevity: the K81 collective-survival ethics suggests that what Ketu-Mokṣa-Kāraka delivers individually (end-of-ego-identification) has a civilizational analog (end-of-species-identification-with-unsustainable-pattern). The reincarnation-and-longevity framework now operates at three scales: body (13/36 formula), ego (Ketu-Mokṣa-Kāraka), and species (K81 collective-survival ethics).

Tensions: The reincarnation-evidence framework appeals to UVA research and cross-tradition convergent data; skeptical readers can interpret each data-point alternatively (cryptamnesia for past-life cases; hallucination or fraud for saint-levitation; metabolic-anomaly for Prahlad Jani; folklore for flying-yogis). Foss's framing presents the data as requiring-explanation rather than as demonstrative-proof — the framework is defensible empirical claim with evidence, not demonstrated fact. The vault preserves the framework at the appropriate evidential-level.

Open Questions: Has the 13/36 longevity formula been empirically tested at the population-level? Do measurable bodily-strength curves match the predicted 36-year peak across population samples? Does the curve shift predictably with chart-position (Moon-strong individuals' peaks come earlier or later than Sun-strong individuals)?

Cross-Domain Handshakes

The mechanism that makes reincarnation-and-longevity framework reach outside Vedic astrology is empirically-grounded engagement with extreme claims that contemporary science treats as taboo — the methodological stance of treating cross-tradition convergent witness data as data-requiring-explanation rather than as cultural-superstition.

  • Psychology / depth-traditions: Grof's Stormy Search for the Self documents perinatal-and-transpersonal phenomena that map structurally onto past-life-material; Stanislav Grof's work treats these phenomena as data-requiring-explanation rather than as fantasy. Structural parallel: both Foss and Grof take empirically-controversial-but-tradition-documented phenomena as primary-data. The insight: contemporary psychology has begun re-engaging with phenomena that materialist-mainstream-science dismisses; the Vedic-astrology framework provides a structured-chart-positional framework for engaging with the same phenomena. A practitioner working with both Grof-style depth-psychology and Foss-style chart-positional-reincarnation would have both diagnostic frameworks operational simultaneously.

  • Cross-domain / consciousness studies: The contemporary consciousness-studies field (David Chalmers, Bernardo Kastrup, the Center for Consciousness Studies) takes physiological-meditation-research, near-death-experience research, and similar data as data-requiring-explanation. Structural parallel: Foss's framework + contemporary consciousness-studies overlap substantially in methodological-stance. The insight: the conditions for re-engaging with traditional spiritual-claims as empirical-claims are emerging in contemporary research; the Vedic-astrology body-transcendence claims may move from outside-the-Overton-window toward within-the-window as the consciousness-studies field matures.

  • Cross-domain / biology and longevity research: Contemporary longevity research (Sinclair on epigenetic-rejuvenation, Buck Institute work on metabolic-pathways-of-aging) treats the body's potential-plasticity-with-respect-to-aging as empirically-investigable. Structural parallel: the 13/36 strength-curve and the Bhrigu-lineage body-transcendence claims address the same domain — what is the body capable of with respect to longevity-and-vitality, and how is this modifiable? The insight: traditional contemplative-practice claims about extreme longevity may be empirically-testable as the longevity-research field develops the tools; the cross-tradition convergence on extreme-body-state claims becomes data-to-be-explained as bioresearch develops better measurement.

The Live Edge

The Sharpest Implication: The 13/36 strength-peak formula is operationally-testable in your own life. If you are over 36 and noticing a felt-sense of strength-decline, the formula predicted it. If you are under 36 and feel immortal, the formula predicts you will eventually notice the curve. The implied operational principle: the body has a predictable strength-curve and life-planning should respect it. The deeper implication: if the Vedic-astrology framework correctly predicts the strength-curve, what else does it predict that you have not yet checked? Foss's framework is not "trust the tradition" — it is "the tradition makes specific testable predictions; test them and update accordingly."

Generative Questions:

  • The UVA reincarnation-research database is the most empirically-rigorous data-collection on past-life claims. Has anyone correlated UVA-database cases with the chart-positions the children involved would have had? If chart-positional-patterns appear that correlate with prior-life-narrative-types, that would be the strongest empirical-test of the chart-positional-reincarnation framework available.
  • The Bhrigu-lineage body-transcendence practice (16-stage mercury-alchemy + breath-balance) requires expert supervision and is operationally-risky. Are there contemporary lineages still teaching this safely? What is the current state of the tradition?
  • The 36-year strength-peak corresponds reasonably to the broad-population peak-strength-research findings. Are there chart-positional sub-types where the peak comes systematically earlier (Saturn-dominant natives, perhaps) or later (Mars-strong natives, perhaps)? Sub-typology of the strength-curve would be operationally-useful.
