Three doctrines often treated together because they all run on the nakshatra-architecture: Muhurta (electional astrology — choosing auspicious times to start new ventures), Nakshatra-based Aspects (planetary aspect-relationships counted in nakshatras rather than rashis), and Body-Part Tables (mapping transit-positions to body-parts for medical diagnostic and remediation work).1
Rao chapter 36 covers Muhurta as a brief introduction; chapter 26.5–26.6 covers the aspects and body-part tables.
Muhurta is the discipline of selecting an auspicious time to begin a venture. Rao at line 507: when choosing a muhurta for a wedding, housewarming, or new project, one should select an auspicious tithi (lunar day), vaara (weekday), nakshatra (constellation), yoga (panchanga yoga), and karana (lunar half-day). Five panchanga factors must align favorably.2
Additional muhurta-specific rules: At muhurta time, transit Moon should not be in a bad Tara from the native's natal Moon. The lagna, Moon, and Sun in the muhurta chart should sit in rashis with strong SAV (Samudaaya Ashtakavarga) counts — 30 or more rekhas (Rao line 3730).
Nakshatra-based Aspects (Rao section 26.5): Each planet has specific aspect-relationships counted in nakshatras rather than rashis. Sun and Moon aspect the 14th and 15th constellations from them. Mars aspects the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 15th. Mercury and Venus aspect the 1st and 15th. Jupiter aspects the 10th, 15th, and 19th. Saturn aspects the 3rd, 5th, 15th, and 19th.3
A natural benefic in nakshatra-aspect produces good results related to the aspected constellation; a malefic produces bad results.
Body-Part Tables (Rao section 26.6): Transit planets in specific constellations from natal Moon dwell in specific body-parts, producing standard results. The tables vary by planet — Tables 65 (Sun), 66 (Moon), 67 (Mars), 68 (Mercury/Jupiter/Venus), 69 (Saturn/Rahu/Ketu). Sun in the 6th–9th from natal Moon dwells in chest, producing victory. Saturn in the 9th–11th from natal Moon dwells in left leg, producing destruction.4
The tables serve two purposes: (1) predict standard transit-results based on body-part-dwelling; (2) diagnose which planet causes a body-part-specific health-problem by reverse-lookup, enabling targeted remediation.
Rao at line 9004 explicitly catalogs the two uses of body-part tables. Forward use: a planet transiting in a specific constellation from natal Moon will produce standard results for that body-part (Sun in chest = victory; Saturn in left leg = destruction). Reverse use: a native suffering pain or disease in a specific body-part — look up which planets dwell in that body-part during their transits, identify the planet currently in transit there, and apply remediation for that planet.
The reverse-use is the operationally important application. A native with persistent chest pain in February 2000 (Rao's example at line 9084): natal Moon in 1st quarter of Visakha. Sun dwells in chest in the 6th–9th from natal Moon (Uttaraashaadha, Sravana, Dhanishtha, Satabhisha). Sun transited these stars during January 11–March 3, 2000. The chest pains coincide with Sun's body-part-dwelling in chest. Sun is the cause; Sun-remediation is indicated.
The integration with Murthi confirms: in January 2000, Sun was Taamra murthi (copper, unfavorable) for natives with natal Moon in Libra; in February 2000, Loha murthi (iron, highly unfavorable). The unfavorable form combined with chest-dwelling explains the chest pain magnitude.
The three doctrines integrate operationally. Muhurta-selection uses nakshatra-aspect analysis to identify when natural-benefic planets aspect the muhurta time's lagna; body-part tables inform remediation when the muhurta is unavoidable but suboptimal.
The doctrines also feed transit-analysis broadly. The nakshatra-aspects supplement the standard rashi-aspect apparatus. Body-part dwellings produce health-prediction-and-diagnostic channels the rashi-only reading misses. Muhurta provides the select-the-moment discipline that complements the predict-events-at-already-set-moments discipline of natal-chart-and-transit analysis.
Rao's chest-pain case (line 9084): native with natal Moon in 1st quarter of Visakha, persistent chest pain in February 2000.
Body-part lookup: Sun dwells in chest in 6th–9th nakshatras from janma. From Visakha: Uttaraashaadha (#6), Sravana (#7), Dhanishtha (#8), Satabhisha (#9). Sun transited these from January 11 to March 3, 2000. Chest-pain timing matches.
Murthi check: Sun entered Capricorn (Uttaraashaadha) in early January 2000. Transit Moon then was in Aries. Aries is the 12th from Libra. Sun is therefore Taamra murthi for Libra-Moon natives. February 2000: Sun moved to Aquarius (Dhanishtha-Satabhisha). Transit Moon then was in Taurus. Aries-region 12th from Libra makes Sun Loha murthi. Iron form dwelling in chest = chest pain.
The integrated reading (body-part dwelling + Murthi + transit-position) identifies Sun-remediation as the appropriate response. The case demonstrates the apparatus's diagnostic-and-prescriptive utility.
It is 9am. Three sub-workflows depending on question:
Muhurta-selection: Native wants to start a venture. You generate candidate muhurta-times. For each, you check tithi, vaara, nakshatra, yoga, karana for favorability. You check Tara from native's natal Moon. You check muhurta-chart's lagna/Moon/Sun in rashis with strong SAV. You select the candidate with maximum convergence. Time: thirty minutes per muhurta.
Nakshatra-aspect analysis: You note transit planets and their nakshatra positions. You check which constellations each aspects via its nakshatra-aspect-formula. You note benefic-aspect-on-special-nakshatra (favorable) vs malefic-aspect (unfavorable). Time: ten minutes.
Body-part diagnosis: Native reports a specific body-part problem. You look up which planets dwell in that body-part during which constellations from natal Moon. You check which currently-transiting planet matches. You apply the planet's standard remediation. Time: fifteen minutes.
The apparatus fails when the practitioner treats the body-part tables as deterministic. A planet dwelling in a body-part can produce the standard result; whether it does depends on the planet's status (benefic/malefic, strong/weak), the Murthi, the Vedha, and other refinement-doctrines. A reader who predicts disease from body-part-dwelling alone produces inflated predictions.
A second failure is over-selecting muhurtas without considering pragmatic constraints. The classical muhurta apparatus produces highly-restrictive auspicious-windows; many practical ventures cannot wait for ideal muhurtas. Conservative practitioners accept acceptable muhurtas; aggressive ones refuse to begin ventures outside optimal windows.
A third failure is using nakshatra-aspects without integrating with rashi-aspects. The two aspect-systems operate together; a planet's full influence includes both. Single-system readings under-resolve.
Muhurta is set out in Rao chapter 36 (introduction) and various references throughout the book (line 507, line 3730). Nakshatra-aspects are at line 8990. Body-part tables are at lines 9000–9080.5 Classical sources include various Muhurta texts (Muhurta Chintamani, Brihat Samhita) and the standard Parashari corpus for aspects and body-parts.
The standing tension: the body-part tables vary slightly across classical sources. Rao transmits a specific table-set; some other commentaries differ in detail. The reverse-diagnostic application requires reliable table-identification.
A second tension: Muhurta selection competes with practical timing requirements. Modern practitioners often compromise on optimal muhurtas for pragmatic reasons (workdays, social schedules). Whether the compromise materially affects outcomes is empirically open.
Rao transmits the three apparatuses with classical-stable definitions. The Sanjay-Rath lineage carries them forward. Other lineages give muhurta-and-body-part tables less prominent treatment. Western astrology has parallel apparatus for electional astrology (muhurta-equivalent) but less developed body-part-tables doctrine.
The three doctrines together encode the moment-of-action and targeted-diagnosis disciplines that several other vault domains share.

The Sharpest Implication
If you accept the muhurta/body-part apparatus, moment-selection and targeted-diagnosis are structural disciplines that improve outcomes regardless of action-intrinsic-quality. A well-chosen moment for an action delivers better than a poorly-chosen moment for the same action; a body-part-targeted intervention delivers better than a generic intervention. The discipline is structural-precision: in any action-system, pay attention to when and where with the same rigor as what and how.
