Both are valid astronomical units; they produce subtly different operational predictions.

What strikes me is that Rao publishes this difference without making it a controversy. The within-lineage father-vs-guru methodology disagreement is preserved silently, without aggressive defense of either position. The student deviates from the guru on a foundational computational rule and the lineage continues. This is structurally different from how most knowledge-transmission lineages handle student-vs-teacher methodological divergence.

Surface-level methodological rules can vary student-to-teacher because they're not the transmission — they're the surface application of it. The transmission is the deeper architectural-method that authorizes flexibility at the surface. Mistaking the surface-rules for the transmission is the structural error of fundamentalist-readings of any tradition.
