Incantations here come in three sizes, and the size is not a stylistic matter. It is a rating, and it runs the opposite way to what a beginner would guess. Incantations, or orisons, come in various forms: those of one word, those of two words and those of three words.1 Then the ranking, stated flatly: one word incantations are the best magical tools, but they need a lot of power to use. Three words incantations are excellent manifestations of magical power but need a lot more focus. And what the curriculum actually teaches: the ones that we shall study here are generally of the two words variety.
Shortest is strongest. And the reason given is an old saying: it has been said that the fewer words a prayer has, the faster and quicker it will reach the Vault of Heaven.
The gloss on that saying turns it into a mechanism rather than a piety. A magical instruction infused in just one word is better understood by the universe than a two word instruction — because, in the phrase used, the information is more concentrated.
Read that as a claim about bandwidth rather than about brevity. The instruction is the same either way; what changes is how densely it is packed. And density is what the universe is said to respond to, which is consistent with the whole system's account of speech: a word is a number, the number is a code, and a code resolves to a vibration. A shorter code is a cleaner one.
The difference between one word and two is not degree. It is a whole extra stage, and it is the most technically specific thing in this passage. A one word incantation is considered to be a True Word. Its words don't change, they have no variance, and they will always be the same. Therefore it affects reality on a direct form, pouring its meanings immediately upon the matrix of the universe.
Direct and immediate. Nothing intervenes. Two- and three-word incantations behave differently, and here is the mechanism. They permute automatically into four subcategories and six subcategories respectively, which pass on to exist on the immediate surroundings of the practitioner. Those subcategories pour their information upon the matrix of the universe and into the Sphere of the Wizard as he or she studies the incantation. Then — and this is the step that matters — after the four or six subcategories have been assimilated by the Philosophical Sphere, their original content and instruction is poured down into manifestation.
So a two-word incantation does not go out. It goes out, splits into four, comes back through the sphere, gets absorbed, and only then descends as the intended instruction. Which makes the Philosophical Sphere a required component of every two-word working. A True Word needs no sphere — it acts directly. Everything the curriculum actually teaches has to pass through the one structure a beginner spends years building.
And the arithmetic is worth noting: two words permute into four, three words into six. Two words have two orderings, so four is not simply the permutation count; three words have six orderings, and there six is exact. The scheme is stated rather than derived.
Each length gets a planet, and the assignments explain the ranking. One word: Uranus — the Keeper of All and the Master of the Divine Crown, and one-word incantations are deemed by Wizards as the more powerful for relating directly to it. Uranus is this system's planet for the number One, for creation and for being the First, so a True Word is aimed at the top of everything.
Two words: Saturn, and the reason given is a comparative one — some say that two words incantations work better because they are related to Saturn, which is the Master of the Universe. Saturn is the number Two's planet, the ruler of time, endings and mastery through testing. Three words: no planet, and a demotion. Three-word incantations are more akin to brute, more physical forms of magic. Brute is the word used. The longest form is the crudest.
Note the disagreement embedded in that middle claim. One-word incantations are called the most powerful, and then some say two-word ones work better. Two positions, one paragraph, unreconciled — and the curriculum teaches the second.
Underneath the length rating sits a claim about what an incantation contains, and it is why the numbers material matters here.
At their innermost core the Apprentice can find powerful divine names, celestial entities and even entire psalms and correspondences, hidden away inside the magical words through the use of Kabbalistic formulas. And the sources of the power are those hidden contents: incantations receive their power from these divine and celestial names, spiritual words, and the very words that correspond numerically with them.
The method for getting at them is named. Through the ancient formulas of Kabbalistic Gematria an incantation is studied and turned into numbers — and through Gematria the Wizard learns how to convert a word into numbers and numbers into words. Then the reward: to master such technique is to become a master of light.
What comes back out is other words with the same value, which add additional corresponding meaning and sense to the original. And the cross-language observation, which is the part offered as remarkable: while the incantations were built using ancient Latin or Greek, the corresponding words are generally taken from the Hebrew — so a magical link is said to exist despite the difference in languages. The worked example is the useful bit: protective incantations will have corresponding words which refer to some form of barrier, defense, covering or guard. Run the numbers on a protective formula and what comes back is more protection, in another language.
The origin claim for the incantations is stated once, and it is where this build's standing warrant comes from. They had been kept secret and hidden away by the Wizards of the Eldest Tradition, handed down generation after generation from Wizard to Apprentice. They are truly ancient, and the apprentice is told to learn them and to keep them away from those which have no interest in Magic.

One passage draws a contrast with other systems, and what it rules out is as informative as what it demands.
Unlike other systems of Magic, in which the Apprentice is asked to perform strange rituals, convoke unholy entities or celestial beings, or even pursue complicated preparations and elaborate ritualistic operations — in this one the Apprentice is only asked to observe the virtues, the values and the statutes which conform the moral core of Wizardry.
Then the consequence, stated as a hard condition: to act differently than it is suggested will only account to a bad practice of these Magical Arts and to its failure. And the exclusion that follows it: no magical operations shall ever come true from the hearts and minds of those who only seek personal gain, revenge, or to subject its neighbour to indecent practices. So the gate on the whole spellbook is conduct rather than skill. The three rings of the sphere — virtues, values, statutes — are not preparation for the incantations. They are the condition under which incantations work at all.
What follows from all of this, practically. Expect to work in twos. The taught set is two-word incantations, which means every operation you learn runs through the permutation-and-assimilation route: out into four subcategories, back through your sphere, then down into manifestation.
Which means build the sphere. A two-word incantation has nowhere to be assimilated without one. That is the strongest argument the material makes for the sphere anywhere, and it is made in passing.
Do not reach for three words for extra force. Three-word forms are called brute and physical, and they need more focus rather than less. Length is not power here.
Treat a one-word incantation as out of range for now. True Words act directly on reality and need a lot of power to use. Study the incantation, do not only say it. The subcategories pour into your sphere as he or she studies the incantation — so study is part of the mechanism, not preparation for it.
And run the gematria. Convert the words to numbers, find the words that share the value, and read them as additional meaning. On a protective formula, expect barriers, defences, coverings and guards to come back.

Gematria is a real and well-documented Kabbalistic technique, and the practice of finding words of equal numerical value is accurately described. 🚩 The cross-language claim does not hold as stated. Gematria operates on Hebrew letters, which carry numerical values; Latin and Greek words do not have Hebrew values without first being transliterated, and the choice of transliteration determines the result. Follow the concentration argument and shorter is simply better. Hearing Is the Best Gate — Both traditions rank utterance by how directly it reaches its target, and both hold that a shorter, denser form of speech gets further than an elaborate one. Neither treats a formula as merely a container for meaning. The Indic account is about the receiving end. Sound is the sense that reaches furthest into a person, works without their cooperation and does not require them to look at anything — which is why the tradition builds so heavily on hearing, and why a syllable can do what a paragraph cannot.
Here the ranking is about the sending end, and neither corpus notices what that shifts. A one-word incantation is stronger because the information is more concentrated — a property of the transmission rather than of any listener. So the limit is the speaker's power rather than the hearer's capacity. A tradition organised around hearing improves its results by teaching people to listen; one organised around concentration improves them by making the speaker stronger, which is exactly why True Words are described as out of reach rather than as difficult to understand.
