You have the formula. School words, incantation, magic word, in order. And you still cannot cast it, because six things have to be true first — and only the last of them happens in the moment.
Although there are many ways to do this, we shall provide an easy yet correct way to cast these wonderful spells.1 What follows is a numbered list, and read together it is a description of a life rather than a preparation ritual. Three of the six are about how you study. One is about who you are. One is about who is nearby. Only the sixth is a technique.
First, a quiet place. The apprentice must study these incantations in a quiet, tranquil and restful place, because an inharmonious environment will take from the Apprentice focus and attention. The same requirement as every other operation here, and stated for the same plain reason.
Second, Focus — which turns out to mean memorisation, and the mechanism given for it is the most interesting claim in the list. An Apprentice needs to be able to study an incantation to the point of memorization. Then why: when the words of an incantation are known by heart, these words had been drawn from the world of matter and thrust into the world of spirit and mind.
Read that as a relocation rather than a metaphor. A formula on a page exists in Assiah, the world of manifestation. A formula you know by heart exists in Yetzirah and Beriah — the worlds of formation and of mind. Memorising it moves it up two floors, and the reason that matters is stated: there, the Apprentice can actually work with them better through visualizations and contemplation.
So memorisation is not about not fumbling the words. It is about the words being somewhere you can operate on them.
Third, Attention. The Apprentice must be able to study for long hours without interruption. The obvious benefit is named first — it helps the memorisation. And then the second one, which is a claim about what study physically does: the longer a person studies magical lore, the magical energies around that person align better and experience cohesion inside the Philosophical Sphere.
That is unusual and worth holding. Study is normally preparation for a working. Here it is a working — long uninterrupted hours produce alignment and cohesion in the sphere as a side effect of the reading itself, whether or not anything is cast at the end.
Which quietly makes an evening spent with the material a different kind of evening from an evening spent doing nothing. The sphere is being tuned by the attention.
Fourth: observe the virtues, values and statutes. One line, no elaboration — because the three rings of the sphere have already had a chapter each. This is the conduct gate appearing inside the casting instructions, which is where it does its real work: not as an ethical preamble but as step four of six.
Fifth: practise in a place far from people. And the reason given is neither secrecy nor safety. It is social: generally people will not understand magical lore and will either think you are going crazy or will make fun of you — and then the odd closing clause, something which will not be tolerated by the Tradition of Old.
⚠ That last phrase is ambiguous as printed. It reads either as the Tradition will not tolerate its practitioners being mocked, or as the Tradition will not tolerate a practitioner exposing themselves to mockery. The first makes it a protection; the second makes it a rule. Reported unresolved.
Either way, the practical instruction is clear and it is the same one the whole practice keeps giving: work where nobody can see you.
The first five are conditions. The sixth is a procedure, and it is the only place the material describes what actually happens in a practitioner's mind at the moment of casting. The sixth is to concentrate the magical power. How: by understanding the definition of the orison or incantation, knowing they are true manifestations of the power of the First Divine.
Then the visualisation, in three stages. Stage one. Visualize each definition and objective being absorbed by the words that form the incantation. So you hold what the spell means and watch the meaning go into the words. The words start empty and get loaded.
Stage two. See in your mind that the words of the incantation begin to glow with unearthly power inside the Philosophical Sphere. The loaded words are now inside the sphere — which is where the earlier material said two-word incantations have to be assimilated.
Stage three, the psalm. Observe as the words of the psalm surround the incantation in a vertiginous orbit or cycle, shedding off incredible amounts of light, to finally be absorbed as well by the words of the incantation. The psalm orbits the incantation, sheds light, and is absorbed into it. That is a picture of one text being fed into another — and it explains why the psalm has to be recited several times beforehand. It is fuel, and the recitation is what makes it available to burn.
Then the trigger. As the Apprentice perceives in its mind that the incantation is glowing like a million suns, the words of the incantation must be said with strength, force and conviction.
Glowing like a million suns is the stopping condition. Not a count, not a duration — a state you wait for and then speak into.
That last detail is worth separating out because it is how the whole practice tends to work. Nothing here says concentrate for five minutes and then speak. It says build the loading, watch the glow, add the psalm's light, and speak when the brightness reaches a stated pitch. The practitioner is watching for a sign in their own imagination and using it as a go signal.
Which is the same structure the furnace drills use — you stay on the spot until you feel a full vibration there — and the same one the sphere's quickening uses. This system prefers markers to clocks, and the marker is almost always something seen or felt internally rather than measured. The risk in that is obvious and unaddressed: a practitioner who never gets to a million suns has no fallback instruction, and one who is easily satisfied has no check.
Read the six in order and they are not six separate requirements. They are a pipeline.
Quiet place, so that focus is possible. Focus, so the incantation gets memorised and moves into the world of spirit and mind. Attention, so the long hours align the sphere. Virtues, values and statutes, so the sphere is charged at all. Distance from people, so none of it is interrupted. And then concentration, which loads the words, lights them in the sphere, feeds the psalm in, and fires.
Each one is the precondition for the next, and the sixth is the only one that produces an effect in the world. Five conditions and one act.
The whole thing, in the material's own order. Find a quiet, tranquil, restful place to study in — an inharmonious one takes your focus.
Memorise the incantation. Not until you can recite it, but until it is known by heart, because that is what moves the words out of the world of matter and into the world of spirit and mind where you can work with them. Study for long hours without interruption. The hours themselves align the energies around you and produce cohesion inside your sphere.
Keep the virtues, the values and the statutes. They are step four of the casting instructions, not a separate moral chapter. Work far from other people.
Then, to cast: hold the definition and objective of the incantation, knowing it is a true manifestation of the power of the First Divine. See the definition absorbed into the words. See the words begin to glow inside your Philosophical Sphere. Recite the psalm several times, then watch its words orbit the incantation, shed light and be absorbed into it. When the incantation is glowing like a million suns, say it with strength, force and conviction.
The six conditions and the concentration procedure are asserted with no tradition named and nothing quoted. This is the Eldest Tradition warrant on the source stub. 🚩 SINGLE SOURCE.
The claim about memorisation moving words from the world of matter into the world of spirit and mind is consistent with this system's own four-worlds scheme and is one of the few places where the cosmology is used to justify a practical instruction rather than the reverse. ⚠ The fifth condition's closing clause is ambiguous — something which will not be tolerated by the Tradition of Old — and is reported unresolved above.
⚠ The stopping condition is a visual state rather than a measure. Glowing like a million suns has no fallback for a practitioner who cannot reach it and no check on one who reaches it too easily. Nothing anywhere addresses either case.
Unresolved: nothing states what to do if a formula is cast before the glow, or whether an incantation said correctly without the visualisation does anything at all.
Follow the first five conditions and casting is the product of a life. A quiet room, memorised formulas, long uninterrupted hours, kept virtues, distance from other people — none of which can be arranged on the evening you need the spell. Follow the sixth and casting is a technique performed in minutes. Load the words, watch them glow, feed in the psalm, speak at the million-sun mark. That can be learned in an afternoon and done tonight.
Both are printed as one instruction with six parts. And a practitioner who has only the sixth will do everything visible correctly and be missing five of the six conditions, with no way of knowing which of them was the one that mattered.
Always Meditate After the Nyāsa — Both traditions insist that the preparatory work and the operative act are not separable, and both put a specific instruction at the seam between them. Neither allows the preparation to be skipped for the sake of getting to the main event. The Indic rule attaches the meditation to the placement: having done the nyāsa, you do not stop there, because the sequence has an obligatory second half. The instruction is about what must follow.
Here the instruction is about what must precede, and neither corpus notices what that does to failure. Five of the six conditions are upstream — the quiet room, the memorisation, the long hours, the conduct, the distance — and the sixth is the act. Which means a failed casting has five places to have gone wrong before the words were even spoken, and none of them is observable at the moment of failure. A rule about what follows can be checked immediately: you either did the meditation or you did not. A stack of preconditions can only be audited backwards, across weeks, by somebody already inclined to doubt themselves.
Sharpest implication. Memorisation is not about accuracy. When the words of an incantation are known by heart, these words had been drawn from the world of matter and thrust into the world of spirit and mind — so learning a formula by heart moves it two worlds up, and that relocation is what makes it workable at all.
Generative questions.
