Most people who pray assume the thing arrives. The invocation school does not, and one of its four first-level charms exists for exactly that gap. The incantation gives prayers, orations and meditative processes a celestial protection so that they don't get lost.1
So that they don't get lost. Which implies prayers can be — that between a person saying something and Heaven receiving it there is a distance, and things go missing across it. That is the shape of this whole school. Invocation here is not asking. It is arranging for somebody to be present, to carry something, or to stand between you and a person who means you harm.
The first charm places beings rather than energies, and its stated target is unusually specific. It creates a heavenly aura around the recipient with an enchantment that keeps evil at bay — and the aura is not the mechanism. What it does is bring celestial entities around the recipient, and these beings will keep the person in a very protective manner, fending off harmful and noxious energies.
Then the scope of the protection, and it is narrower than the opening suggests: the protection consists of keeping away those forces which seek to harm the innocence of a child, or tamper with the innate goodness of a person. Innocence and innate goodness. Not the body and not the property — this charm guards a particular quality in somebody, and the harms it repels are the ones aimed at that. It also manifests celestial watchfulness and conveys peace and serenity to the recipient. And the historical use is plain and human: it was principally used to keep young children safe from the hand of troublesome kids or perverse people.
Psalm 33:8. Celestial: Qabalan, Seraph of the First Heaven, who protects the devout and keeps harm away from good people.
The second is the delivery charm and its mechanism is the most concrete in the school. What it does: it places several angelic entities to watch over the prayers being made, so that they personally take them to the Realm of Heaven. Personally take them. Not amplify, not speed up — carry. The prayer is treated as an object in transit with a courier assigned to it, and the reason given is that this additional heavenly strength will allow these prayers to reach the vaults of Heaven and our Lord of Hosts without getting lost. Two further capacities follow and they are larger than the first. Through this incantation the wizard convinces the angelic stewards of Heaven to act on his/her behalf, and these will come to his/her aid.
And then the return channel: the wizard is capable of communicating and conversing with the holy angels, and will receive from them visions regarding her/his spiritual path and evolution into the World of Light. Conversing. Which is a two-way relationship rather than a delivery service, and it arrives at the first level of a school whose higher material is supposed to be out of an apprentice's reach.
Psalm 116:2. Celestial: Ratanel, Cherub of the Second Heaven, appointed over prayers and orations.
The third charm is for being persecuted, and what makes it worth stopping on is where it puts its effect. The situation: a person is being persecuted by wrongful enemies, or under the risk of running into entrapment. The obvious design would be a shield. This is not that. The incantation sends angelic forces around the enemies — around them, not around you — so that they'll stop their quarrels and enmities with the recipient.
And then the mechanism, which is the sharpest thing in the school: the celestial energies surrounding these enemies will make them repent from their actions and stop right away their evil ways towards the recipient. Make them repent. The charm does not block the persecution. It changes the person doing it.
Take that seriously and it is a different kind of working from anything in the protection school, where a wall goes up and something bounces off it. Here nothing is deflected, because the pursuer stops wanting to pursue. The threat is removed by removing the intention behind it.
Which is also why the listed effects are all about behaviour rather than about safety. It repels the treacherous activities of enemies and makes them yield. It prevents people from scheming and plotting. It stops people from harassing and prevents quarrelsome behavior and conducts which make the environment heavy with trouble, obstacles, barriers and impediments.
⚠ And it is worth naming what that means. This is a charm cast on a third party, without their knowledge, that alters what they want — and the school it sits in is the one about asking Heaven for things rather than the one about acting on people. No condition of any kind is attached.
Psalm 8:3. Celestial: Atharel, Host of the Fourth Heaven, in charge of protecting us from squanderers and malicious people.
The fourth acts on a place and on the people in it, and it is preparatory rather than curative. Its main purpose is to establish an environment of praying, religiousness and piousness in a given place. The prime objective is to start a line of devotion and prayer and to generate a spiritual setting in which people are moved to prayer and the most pure aspects of religious devotion.
What it produces in the people present: an effect of the deepest commitment with God and the spiritual world. Then the operational use, which is why this charm exists in a working spellbook: it can also be used prior to rituals and religious experiences, so that the operation be filled with angelic beings, celestial entities and divine presences and not hampered by the forces of evil and darkness in anyway. Cast before. Which makes it the invocation school's equivalent of the weapon blessing in the benedictions — the thing you do first so that what follows takes properly. And a personal effect is added: the incantation will surround the recipient with a heavenly aura which will thwart and keep the forces of evil at bay.
Psalm 125:3. Celestial: Sarabel, Prince of the Second Heaven, appointed with creating spiritual environments and atmosphere in sacred places.
Read the set together and none of these four does anything directly. Every one of them arranges for a being to be somewhere. Angelorogus brings celestial entities around the recipient. Prosethias places several angelic entities to watch over the prayers. Rogo Nonvenator sends angelic forces around the enemies. Theomaisthemas fills a place with angelic beings, celestial entities and divine presences.
Around a person, over a prayer, around an opponent, and through a room. Four placements, and in each case the working is the placement — what happens afterwards is done by whoever was placed. Which is the assistance economy of this practice, stated more plainly here than anywhere else in the spellbook. The practitioner does not act. The practitioner arranges attendance.
The celestials here sit at the First, Second, Fourth and Second Heavens, and the ranks are worth noting because they are top-heavy compared with the earlier schools. Qabalan is a Seraph — the highest angelic rank in the traditional Western ordering, and it is attached to the charm that guards children. Ratanel is a Cherub, second in that ordering, and it is appointed over prayers. Sarabel is a Prince, a rank this material uses for beings that govern a domain rather than serve in one.
Only Atharel, on the anti-persecution charm, holds the more ordinary rank of Host — and it sits in the Fourth Heaven, the highest of the four. ⚠ So the rank and the heaven do not track each other. The Seraph is in the First Heaven and the Host is in the Fourth, which means these are two independent axes rather than one ladder. Nothing in the volume explains how they relate.
For a child, or for somebody whose goodness is what is being got at: Angelorogus. The protection is aimed at innocence rather than at the body. For prayer that seems to go nowhere: Prosethias. It assigns couriers, brings the stewards of Heaven onto your side, and opens a conversation in which visions about your own path come back.
When somebody is persecuting you: Rogo Nonvenator — understanding that it works on them rather than on you, by making them repent. Before any rite, and for any room that needs to become devout: Theomaisthemas. Cast it first, so the operation that follows is filled with the right presences and nothing else.
And read the whole set as attendance rather than as force. In each case you are asking for somebody to be placed somewhere, and the result follows from their being there.
The four incantations, their effects, psalms and celestials are all in the First Level Invocations section of the spellbook. This is the Eldest Tradition warrant on the source stub. 🚩 SINGLE SOURCE.
⚠ Rogo Nonvenator alters what a third party wants, without their knowledge and with no condition attached. Reported as printed. ⚠ Prosethias grants conversation with holy angels and visions about the practitioner's own path, at the first level of the school — against the curriculum's general position elsewhere that angels are out of reach at apprentice level.
⚠ Seraph, Cherub, Prince and Host appear across four entries with no relation stated between rank and Heaven. Unresolved: prayers are described as capable of getting lost on the way. Nothing states what becomes of a lost one, or what is out there that they get lost in.
Follow the protection charm and this school shields what is innocent. Celestial beings placed around a child, keeping away the forces that would harm innocence or tamper with a person's innate goodness. Follow the anti-persecution charm and the same school reaches into an adult stranger and changes their mind. Angelic forces placed around your enemies until they repent, stop scheming, and give up their enmity — with no consent, no notice, and no condition on when it is warranted.
Both are in the same four, and the second is the one with the more ordinary celestial attached. The school that exists to ask Heaven for things contains its most direct act on another person's will.
Zero handshakes on this page. The material is four printed formulas with their effects, texts and celestials, and the connection worth having — that spell level is a headcount of allies rather than a measure of force — is carried inside this build by the page that treats that mechanism directly.
Sharpest implication. The anti-persecution charm does not protect you. It sends angelic forces around the enemies so that the celestial energies surrounding these enemies will make them repent from their actions. Nothing is deflected, because after it lands there is nothing coming — the pursuer has stopped wanting to pursue.
Generative questions.
