Every Stone Houses Someone

There Is Somebody Inside It

Pick up the tumbled amethyst you bought in a shop. On this account you are holding a person's house. These stones possess a living, thinking, magical being inside — and the instruction that follows from that is a manner rather than a method. The Apprentice and Wizard should treat each gemstone's spirit with proper respect, in order not to upset it.1

Everything practical about gemstones in this system runs off that one sentence. There is a way to ask, a way to close, a rule about where you may keep them, and a weekly obligation — and all four exist because the object is not an object.

How the Power Got Into Them

The mechanism is planetary and geological at the same time, and both halves are needed. Gemstones are purveyors of great power stemming directly from the sacred and holy womb of the Earth Mother. Then the transmission: the planets themselves radiate their divine and magical energies upon Earth, and as the Earth is bathed in those lights — each charged with a particular planet's qualities — so are the crystals and precious stones suffused with these wonderful attributes, since these are found deep within the mantle of the world.

And what arrives is not only planetary. With each radiation, the stones gather energies from the corresponding celestials, deities, individual sephiroth and even divine attributes. So a stone accumulates from four sources at once, and the result is that each one has collected in its essence and physical substance the energy, vibration and frequency needed to manifest its particular powers.

Note what that makes a gemstone. Not a symbol of a planet and not a tuned receiver — a deposit, laid down over geological time, of everything that has been shining on the ground above it.

Analytical Case Study — The Four-Step Courtesy

The protocol has four moves and only two of them do anything magical. The other two are manners. First, the silent prayer. Ask for proper contact with the stone or crystal — and the description of what that prayer is for is unusually careful. It should be a process of becoming more aware of the being inside the gemstone. Then, more plainly still: it's a sense of realizing that inside it there is a live sentient being.

Read that as an instruction about attention rather than about words. The prayer is not a request that gets granted or refused. It is the operation by which the practitioner stops treating the thing in their hand as a mineral. Nothing is said aloud — the prayer is silent — and the whole of it is arriving at the recognition.

Second, the blessing and the exorcism. These are performed over the gemstone in order to use it, and they are the standard pair: Exornita Potens Lapidus and Magicartifex Ubertas. This is the working half.

Third, the cleansing again. After the stone has been used, perform the cleansing ritual a second time. Fourth, the thanks. The magical spirit should be addressed with special thanks for its cooperation, assistance and the aid provided.

Look at the shape. Recognition, then work, then cleaning, then gratitude — with the magic occupying only the middle. Two of the four steps are the etiquette of dealing with somebody who has helped you, and neither is described as doing anything to the stone's power. They are there because there is a being present.

Then the stone is put away — placed in a special case or box where it is kept safe and protected when not in use. Not stored. Protected.

What Thanks Is Doing Here

The gratitude step deserves separating out, because it is the one part of this procedure with no stated mechanism at all. Everywhere else in this practice, a closing action has a job. The pentagram is traced again at the end because the figure has to be closed. The crystal ball is covered because an open connection produces flash images and voices. The censer's ashes go to the countryside because the energies would otherwise linger as troublesome echoes.

Thanking a gemstone's spirit is not given a consequence. Nothing is said about what happens if you skip it — no residue, no leakage, no echo. The only stated hazard anywhere near it is upsetting the spirit, which is a relationship being damaged rather than an operation going wrong.

Which makes this the one closing move in the practical material that is purely about the other party.

The Handbag Rule

The carrying instruction is precise and its second reason is more interesting than its first. Gemstones should be carried really close to the body — as jewellery, rings, pendants, or a couple of them in a small bag or inside a pocket.

Then the prohibition: what can't be done is to carry them in a hand bag, or have them in places where they are not in contact with the body. Two reasons are given, in this order. Those stones will not have the desired effect one is looking for — and it is besides being disrespectful for the gemstone's spirit. So a stone in a handbag fails twice. It fails mechanically, because the effect needs contact. And it fails socially, because a sentient being has been put in a bag with your keys.

That second reason is the one that would not exist in any other system on this subject. A tuned instrument left in the wrong pocket is simply out of range. A person left in the wrong pocket has been slighted.

Crystals and Precious Stones Are Not the Same Thing

A distinction is drawn early and it is practical rather than doctrinal. Crystals are clear and translucent, and precious stones are not transparent and are rather rougher on appearance. Crystals are more fragile and should be kept in special places, with a little more care. Precious stones are sturdier and can be kept in the open more easily, since they don't tend to deteriorate as crystals might do if left in the open.

Both are usually met in tumbled form — smooth-surfaced — and both reveal their shine and inner beauty when properly cut and polished. The worked example is a rough-looking emerald that turns translucent and bright once cut. And the closing judgement steps away from all of that: crystals and precious stones are all beautiful regardless of the cuts and polish, and what truly matters is the care the Apprentice gives to these stones and the magical use he or she gives to them.

Weekly Re-Powering

There is a maintenance schedule, and it is the practitioner's obligation rather than the stone's.

Re-power these instruments on a weekly basis with the Exornita Potens Lapidus Charm and the Magicartifex Ubertas. And optionally, at least two more incantations from the spellbook may be added.

Weekly, for every stone you own — which puts a real ceiling on how many a person can keep in service. That is consistent with the advice given about the field as a whole: the realm of stones is vast, with many new stones surfacing here and there almost every day, and an apprentice should concentrate on the primary activities of precious gemstones rather than dilute his or her efforts on knowing every single one. Those primary activities are five: protective and grounding capacities, healing abilities, communion and communication with other entities, providing extra energy, and cleaning auras, people and even places. Plus two more named separately — keeping evil at bay, and allowing access to hidden information contained inside their crystalline structures.

Implementation Workflow — Using a Stone Properly

The whole cycle, in order. Before use, ask. A silent prayer for proper contact, whose real content is arriving at the awareness that there is a live sentient being inside the stone.

Then bless and exorcise. Exornita Potens Lapidus and Magicartifex Ubertas over the gemstone. This is what makes it usable.

Carry it against your body. A ring, a pendant, a pocket, a small bag worn close. Never a handbag, and never anywhere it is not touching you.

After use, cleanse it again, then thank the spirit by name of what it did — its cooperation, its assistance, the aid it provided. Then put it away in a case or box, kept safe rather than merely stored.

And re-power everything weekly. Exornita Potens Lapidus and Magicartifex Ubertas over each stone, every week, with two further incantations if you want them.

Evidence, Tensions, Open Questions

The planetary-radiation mechanism, the consent protocol and the carrying rule are asserted with no tradition named and nothing quoted. This is the Eldest Tradition warrant on the source stub. 🚩 SINGLE SOURCE.

The historical examples given are real and checkable. The Hoshen — the High Priest's breastplate of twelve stones, worn with the ephod — is described in Exodus, and the Black Stone at Mecca and the use of precious stones by Catholic prelates are both genuine. They are offered as evidence that stones have been treated as powerful, which they support; they do not support the specific mechanism.

🚩 The crystal-versus-precious-stone distinction given here — transparency and fragility — is not the mineralogical distinction, where "crystal" refers to atomic structure and nearly all gemstones are crystalline. It is reported as a practical working distinction rather than corrected. ⚠ The claim that stones are suffused with planetary energy since these are found deep within the mantle of the world treats depth as what exposes them to radiation from above. The reasoning is stated rather than argued.

Unresolved: nothing states what an upset gemstone spirit does. A footnote a few pages later gives the consequence of a different failure — if a practitioner never develops the proper awareness with the spirit, this one will simply go away — but neglect and offence are not the same case, and only the first has an outcome attached.

Author Tensions & Convergences

Follow the deposit account and a stone is a battery of accumulated radiation. Planets shine, the mantle collects, and each stone ends up holding the exact energy, vibration and frequency its powers need. On that reading the being inside is incidental, and what matters is what the rock absorbed.

Follow the courtesy protocol and a stone is somebody's house. You ask before you begin, you thank afterwards for cooperation and assistance, you keep it safe rather than stored, and you may not put it in a handbag because that is disrespectful. On that reading the power is being lent by a party who could presumably decline.

Both are in the same section, and they disagree about whether a gemstone can refuse. The prayer asks for proper contact and no procedure exists for being turned down — but if there were nobody home, there would be nothing to thank.

Cross-Domain Handshakes

The Offering Is Not Symbolic — It Is a Provocation-and-Response Feedback System — Both traditions treat dealing with a non-human being as a two-party transaction with a defined opening and closing, and both refuse to read the courtesies as symbolic. In each, something is actually being exchanged with somebody who is actually there.

The Akan-Kemetic account makes the exchange measurable. An offering is provocation and response: something is provoked, energy is released across space, it makes contact with the recipient, the recipient processes it and releases a measurable response. Something physical goes to the being, and something comes back.

Here the closing move is thanks, and nothing travels, which neither corpus notices. The gemstone's spirit is addressed with special thanks for its cooperation, assistance and the aid provided — words offered to somebody who has already given. Which leaves the ledger one-sided in a way an offering never is. The wizard does re-power the stone weekly, but that charges the instrument for the wizard's own next use rather than feeding the being in it. A feedback system tells a practitioner whether the relationship is working, because a response comes back. A protocol of good manners tells them nothing at all — which is exactly why this system can require respect in order not to upset the spirit and never describe what an upset one does.

The Live Edge

Sharpest implication. The prayer that opens the procedure is not a request. It is a process of becoming more aware of the being inside the gemstone — so the first operation on any stone is a change in the practitioner's perception, and the stone is not asked for anything at all.

Generative questions.

  • Respect is demanded so as not to upset the spirit, and no consequence of upsetting one is ever given. Is the rule ethical, or is a consequence simply missing?
  • A stone in a handbag both fails to work and insults its occupant. Which of those two is the reason the rule exists?
  • Weekly re-powering applies to every stone you own. Does that cap a practitioner's collection at whatever they can maintain?
