Almost nothing in this curriculum gives you a number. Durations are vague, the sphere finishes when it finishes, and most drills end in a change of perception nobody could check. The Fourth Ring is the exception, and it produces an actual figure for the state of your sphere.
Every one of the thirty-two Esophoros concepts carries a Magical Value. You choose eight, you add their values, and the total is the amount of Lumen a Sphere has.1 That's a quantity, attached to an interior construct, arrived at by arithmetic. The values run by category. Essence of God concepts are worth 8. Attributes are 6. Actions are 4. Manifestations are 2.2 So the ceiling for a first layer is sixty-four, if you take all eight from Essence, and the floor is sixteen if you take all eight from Manifestations.
The four categories aren't just price bands. Each one does a different job in the sphere, and the descriptions explain the pricing.
Essence of the Divine concepts define divinity itself. They let the wizard access the most intricate concepts of the divine, acquire a sense of divinity and understand it — and then the strong claim: with one placed in the ring, the wizard can be like the Source Divine in matters of character and persona, perfecting them in action, thought and magical undertaking. They also bring an existence proper to the divine realm into a living one, making the wizard a piece of the Source Divine here on Earth. And the sphere follows: if the wizard is infused with divine essence, the sphere will be more so.3
Attributes of the Divine define the aspects of divine power, giving the sphere divine functions and actions. Actions of the Divine cover the wonderful acts, helping the wizard understand miraculous and extraordinary events. Manifestations of the Divine are the great things created by the Eternal, brought into being by sheer divine force.
Read down that list and the pricing tracks abstraction. What defines divinity costs most; what divinity produced costs least. Essence is upstream and Manifestation is downstream, which is the same ordering the four worlds use.
Esophoros joins two Greek roots — Eson, related to Being, and sophoros, related to wisdom and light — read together as the action of Wisdom being Light.4
That's the ring's function stated as a name. Esophoros is the coupling that merges the wizard's own energy with the universe's, and its concepts are all about what divinity is and does. So the merger isn't mechanical alone: the ring holds the definitions of the divine, and those definitions are what the two energies get interlocked through.
One example survives from the tables and is worth having, because it's specific. Among the Attributes is Aeon, glossed as the Perfect Voices — this one gives the wizard the perfect magical voice needed in Magic.5 Worth six Lumen, and in a system where the voice does the crossing between thought and reality, that is a load-bearing purchase.
Here's where the numbers create a decision the material never acknowledges. The apprentice is told to select eight concepts for the first layer, and given a hint: consider choosing at least one of every category.6 Meanwhile the Lumen score is the sum of what you chose, and the categories are priced 8, 6, 4 and 2.
Run the arithmetic. Eight Essence concepts gives you 64 Lumen. A balanced spread of two from each category gives you 8+8+6+6+4+4+2+2 = 40. The minimum viable version of the hint — one from each of the low three, five from Essence — gives you 52.
So following the balance hint costs between twelve and twenty-four Lumen out of a possible sixty-four. That is a real trade between a high score and a spread of kinds, and it goes unmentioned.
Which raises the question the material leaves open: is Lumen a thing you want more of? It's called the amount of Lumen a sphere has, and it's never used again in the range read — no threshold, no effect tied to a range, no operation that requires a minimum. If Lumen measured raw power, the hint is telling you to accept a weaker sphere for reasons never given. If Lumen measures something else — depth of definition, perhaps, since Essence concepts are the ones that define — then a maximised score describes a sphere that is beautifully defined and does nothing, since Manifestation concepts are what bring things about.
The category descriptions support the second reading. Essence defines, Manifestation produces, and a sphere made entirely of definitions would be an extremely high-scoring machine with no output. That would make Lumen a measure of abstraction rather than of strength, and the balance hint a warning against buying the expensive end. None of that is stated anywhere. But the numbers, the category functions and the hint only fit together that way, and a practitioner choosing eight concepts has to decide something.
The structural fix that makes this ring possible is worth stating, because three more rings use it. Every ring has eight slots and this one has thirty-two concepts. Rings in that position are Tetradimensional Rings — a single ring that is, in essence, four layers, each layer holding eight.7 So the thirty-two aren't competing for eight slots; they're distributed across four eights, and the apprentice fills the first layer only.
That means the Lumen score of a beginner's sphere is a first-layer score. What happens to the total when the second, third and fourth layers get filled isn't stated, and neither is the trigger for filling them.
Because Lumen is never used again, the total functions as a record rather than as a threshold. A practitioner who writes it down has something to compare against when the second layer gets filled, which is more than this curriculum offers for anything else — the sphere, the furnaces and the schools all progress with no measure attached at all.
The task is study first, then selection, and the material is unusually clear that the study matters more than the speed. Read all thirty-two before choosing anything. The concepts are said to prove highly beneficial if chosen appropriately, which puts the weight on the choice rather than on the practice that follows, and four tables are supplied specifically to support that reading.8 The categories are the frame to read them in: is this concept telling me what the divine is, what powers it has, what it does, or what it made?
Then choose eight for the first layer, taking the hint about covering each category — and go in knowing what that costs, because your Lumen total is fixed by the choice. Place them the way the Sephiroth, the Virtues, the Statutes and the Values were placed: against the eight magical directions and your own needs. And keep the total. It's the only number this curriculum ever gives you about the state of your own sphere, and the arithmetic is trivial enough that there's no reason not to.

Follow the Essence description and more is straightforwardly better. Essence concepts make the wizard like the Source Divine in character, perfect them in action and thought, and make them a piece of the Source on Earth — and the sphere is then more so. Nothing there suggests a downside, and they happen to be the highest-scoring category.
Follow the hint and spread is better. At least one from every category, which necessarily means fewer of the ones that do all of the above. The two are on the same page, separated by a few paragraphs, and neither mentions the other. A practitioner maximising for what the Essence paragraph promises will produce a sphere the hint says is unbalanced; one following the hint gets a lower score on the only measure this system supplies. Nothing indicates which mistake is worse.
The Eight Siddhis — Both traditions enumerate a fixed set of attainments and then have to say something about how they relate to each other. The Indian eight are attainments that arrive; these thirty-two are concepts a practitioner installs, and eight of them at a time.
The difference that matters is who does the selecting. Siddhis are conventionally described as arriving as consequences of practice, in an order the practitioner does not set, and a great deal of the surrounding literature is about what to do when one shows up. Here the practitioner chooses in advance, with a price list, and the choice is fixed into a ring that then powers the sphere.
Put together they show what a catalogue with prices does to a practice, which neither corpus states. Where attainments arrive, the practitioner's job is discernment after the fact — recognising what came, and not being captured by it. Where attainments are selected from a priced menu, the practitioner's job moves to the front and becomes optimisation — and the whole question of what you should want gets settled once, in advance, by somebody with no experience of any of the thirty-two. That is a real hazard of making an interior state countable, and this ring's own unresolved hint is the evidence for it.
Sharpest implication. This is the only place the curriculum makes an interior state countable. Thirty-two concepts priced 8, 6, 4 and 2; you choose eight; the sum is your sphere's Lumen — and the balance hint the same section gives costs you up to twenty-four points of it, with nothing said about which to prefer.
